Contact Lens Evaluation
Few things affect the quality of your life more than your eyes. Please don’t put them at risk! Our doctors provide full-service care by assessing your medical needs and your lifestyle. They also offer the highest quality contact lenses available and the proper training to ensure great vision.
It is important to remember that contact lenses are prescription medical devices. Various brands are designed and manufactured differently.
The selection of a particular contact lens needs to be based on your vision problems, prescription, eye health, comfort requirements, lifestyle, age and other physical factors.
We’ll discuss the different lens types and brands with you and advise you about the lens choices that are best for your eyes.
Because everyone’s eyes and vision needs are different, contact lenses are available with varying schedules for removal and replacement. We’ll teach you how to properly clean and wear your new contact lenses to maximize vision and minimize potential risks.

Lasik
Laser assisted in situ keratomileusis, commonly referred to as LASIK, is a corrective alternative to glasses or contact lenses. Like glasses or contact lenses, LASIK is a method for treating refractive conditions including nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. At Barrington Eye Care Center, P.C., Dr. Aschenbrenner provides pre- and post-operative exams for LASIK and other eye procedures. Call 847-381-5313 today to schedule an examination to see whether you are a candidate for LASIK.

Corneal Reshaping (Ortho-K)
Now you can be free of daytime contact lenses or glasses and enjoy great vision during your daily activities without undergoing surgery! Recent clinical research combined with the latest corneal surface mapping technology found at Barrington Eye Care Center make this possible. Corneal Reshaping Therapy is a non-surgical process developed to reshape the cornea while you sleep. The result is the temporary correction of nearsightedness with or without astigmatism.
Similar in appearance to standard contact lenses, these therapeutic molding devices gently reshape the corneal surface during sleep to provide clear natural vision when the lenses are removed upon waking.
Active individuals can freely participate in sports without the interference of glasses or contacts. Eye irritation and dryness, sometimes associated with contact lens wear due to outside dust and pollutants, are also eliminated!

Eye Health Evaluations
Did you know that your eyes reveal insight regarding your overall health? In fact, your eyes provide early detection for many different diseases that can affect more than just your vision! That’s why we routinely perform tests that look for signs and symptoms of many different diseases, not just eye diseases, during your regularly scheduled eye health evaluation.
Learn More
Of course, we are always checking your eyesight to ensure proper vision. Your total eye health is extremely important to us and we do everything we can to make sure you receive the best personalized care possible. Did you know that the curve of your cornea determines how the light reflects into your retina and the type of image produced? We measure your cornea, record your vision then consult and recommend the best options available to you with all the latest technology! We routinely check for glaucoma during each yearly exam. Your eye has pressure just like your blood, and when this internal ocular pressure increases to high levels, it can damage the optic nerve resulting in serious ocular problems. In some cases glaucoma can occur with normal eye pressure due to poor blood supply to the optic nerve. Early detection of glaucoma is crucial to prevent the loss of sight.
While so many bargain eye care providers are interested only in volume and getting the next patient in the chair, we put quality above all else. We want your eyes and your vision healthy. That’s why we offer comprehensive eye health evaluations and necessary follow-up care.
We also watch closely for the development of cataracts. A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens. The lens is made primarily of water and protein, and at a certain age the protein may clump together creating the cloudy effect indicative of a cataract.

Treatment of Eye Disease
At the Barrington Eye Care Center, your vision is our primary concern. We offer vision correction for eye diseases and disorders which prevent you from enjoying the world around you. We provide treatment of eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and cataracts. We also can effectively correct vision conditions, such as myopia (near-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), and presbyopia.
If you are diagnosed with an eye disease, you want the best treatment available to get your eyes and your vision healthy again.
At the Barrington Eye Care Center, we offer unsurpassed care. Based on your diagnosis, we may recommend a wide variety of approaches, including prescription medications or surgical procedures.
Whatever we recommend, you can be assured that your vision health is our primary concern.

GDxVCC Glaucoma Testing
- Discriminates between healthy and glaucomatous eyes
- Predictive of visual field loss
- Tracks change over time
- Clear and intuitive reportsv
- Stereo reproducible imaging
- Very comfortable
- A non-invasive procedure
- Resume normal activities
GDx™ – Precise RNFL analysis for glaucoma case detection, diagnosis, and management.
The GDx provides highly reproducible, objective measurements of the RNFL, to detect structural changes early. It then compares these measurements to an age-stratified, multi-ethnic normative database, providing you with a unique visual representation. It also uses neural network techniques to calculate a unique Nerve Fiber Index (NFI) to determine the likelihood of glaucoma. A recent study found that the NFI can differentiate between normal eyes and glaucomatous eyes before visual field loss with sensitivity and specificity of 83% and 82%, respectively.
